Tuberculosis

For some time from the moment of detection of pulmonary tuberculosis and until hospitalization, the patient lives at home. Yes, and after treatment in a hospital, although to a lesser extent, it can be dangerous to others if it does not stop the secretion of bacteria.

All this time, the patient himself and his family members are required to comply with the sanitary-hygienic and anti-epidemic regime that prevents the spread of infection. It is necessary to remember and carefully follow the recommendations of the medical staff of the TB dispensary, which provides disinfectants for the disinfection of household items seeded with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

In this article, we continue the discussion of how the patient and his family should behave in order to block the spread of tuberculosis infection.

It is best to place the patient in a separate room, and if this is not possible, then in the most convenient part of the common room, which is close to the window and fresh air, enclosed by a screen. His bed should be at least one and a half meters from the beds of other family members. It is advisable that the patient has a metal bed, since it is easier to disinfect.

Leave only the most necessary things in the room. Cover upholstered furniture with easily erasable covers. Remove carpets and paths.

Throughout the apartment, especially near the bed, in the patient’s resting areas, do wet cleaning daily. Wipe the floor, the surface of unpolished furniture with a rag moistened with a disinfectant solution, and polished with kerosene or polish spray. After cleaning, ventilate the room for 30-60 minutes.

Patient’s clothes should be stored on a separate hanger. Ventilate it daily, iron everything you can with a hot iron, and in the summer take it out onto the balcony, onto the street — let it hang in the sun. Collect dirty patient linen, handkerchiefs, towels that he uses, loose pockets and flannel cases for the spittoon in the tank with a lid or in a cloth bag and store in a designated place.

To disinfect dirty laundry, it is enough to boil it for half an hour in a separate bucket or tank. Then rinse it in running water and wash in the usual way, but separately from the linen of other family members. It is forbidden to hand over the patient’s uncontaminated linen to laundries. Remember that by violating this prohibition you endanger the health of many people.

It is recommended to take care of the patient if he is lying down, it is recommended to clean the room with a dressing gown, cap or scarf, and a quit bed, collecting dirty linen. Also rubber gloves, a gauze bandage covering the mouth and nose.

The largest number of mycobacterium tuberculosis falls on surrounding objects with droplets of saliva and sputum when the patient coughs or sneezes. He must use a handkerchief and keep it in a pocket that protects his clothes from contamination.

The patient should collect sputum in a special spittoon bowl with a lid. Leaving the house, it must be put in the insert pocket or flannel case. The most affordable way to disinfect sputum at home is boiling the spittoon. They are boiled for half an hour in a specially selected for this purpose pot with water and baking soda (one teaspoon per glass of water).

The patient should know: in no case should you spit sputum in the toilet, since when treating urban wastewater, mycobacterium tuberculosis is not destroyed.

For the same reason, do not wash the dishes of the patient over the sink immediately after he ate. First, the leftover food should be put in a container, and the dishes should be placed in a pan with water so that the dishes are completely immersed in water and boiled for 30 minutes, then wash them under the tap and, without wiping them with a towel, put them in an oven. separate from the dishes of other family members. It is desirable. so that the patient’s dishes are noticeably different in shape or pattern. Before you throw away the remnants of food, fill them with water and also boil for half an hour. But even boiling leftover food of the patient is forbidden to feed pets! The most faithful controller of the implementation of these generally elementary and simple rules should be your conscience.

Boil metal, rubber, wooden household items (including toys of sick children) in a separate bowl for 30 minutes, completely immersing them in Water, and wipe plastic ones with rags moistened with a disinfectant solution. Boil patient care items (for example, enema tips) for half an hour in water, or wipe with a rag moistened with a disinfectant solution, or immerse in a solution (bedpan, urinal). How much to keep them in solution, you can find out from the specialists of the TB dispensary. Rags, rags can be optionally boiled or immersed in a disinfectant solution.Chloramine, bleach are used as disinfectants. sulfochlorantin, chlorcin and other drugs in dry form or 1–20 percent of their solutions. On the rules for working with disinfectants, precautions for their use. first aid in case of irritation of the skin, mucous membranes of the eyes and upper respiratory tract will inform you in the TB dispensary.
